Scotti & de Felice (ITA) and Walsh & Husband (GBR): European Champions

The victorious sailors at the 420 European Championships in Istanbul were Edoardo Mancinelli Scotti & Lorenze de Felice of Italy in the Open Championship and Claire Walsh & Jasmine Husband of Great Britain in the Ladies’ Championship, with Tim Saxton & Claire Lasko (GBR) leading the silver fleet.

NB Ladies did 12 races and Open fleet did 11 + Qualifiers. Results just updated on Event Website (follow link) include the final Ladies' race. Everyone very busy here packing up and some celebrating! Remember these results are provisional and "subject to protest".

Excellent racing on Day 2 on the Bosphorus

Racing today (Saturday) in Kalanis Bay on the Bosphorous was described as “fantastic”. The open fleet concluded their qualifying rounds with a further three races in winds around 15 knots, in a fairly flat sea.

Racing gets underway in Istanbul

The International 420 European Championships got underway to an excellent start at Istanbul on Friday, with eight races sailed. In the open competition, boats are divided into four flights, for the qualifying series, which leads to division into gold and silver fleets after further races today. Three races were sailed, as planned, with the women’s fleet sailing two races of their Championship.

Leadership changes in the Ladies' and Silver Fleets, while the Italians strengthen their lead in the Gold Fleet

Again, the planned three races each in the gold and silver fleets of the Open Championship and two races in the Ladies’ Championship were completed yesterday (Wednesday). Principal Race Officer, Selma Uca, summed up the racing for the day in one word, “fine”. At the beginning of the day, the northerly wind was around 13/14 knots, building a little to 16/18 knots by the end, with gusts of 20/21 kn.
