420 CLASS COACHES AND SAILORS CLINIC UNDERWAY IN BAHAMAS
The four day 420 Class Coaches and Sailors Clinic, 15-18 March, kicked off today at the Nassau Yacht Club led by Head Coach Steve Keen (NZL), well-known on the International 420 Class circuit.
Eight coaches/instructors and 11 sailors participated on day 1, which was a mostly shore based day, focusing on various aspects of boat preparation. Later in the afternoon, the 3-hour on water session emphasized how speed and timing are so crucial in all aspects of the sailing the 420; from rigging, flying the spinnaker, trapeze work and boat manoevres.
Steve Keen shared numerous top top tips on trapeze technique, with students putting their morning shoreside experience into practice on the water in the afternoon.
The on-water session wrapped up at 1800 hours, after a long day in the Bahamian heat, and many tired by far more knowledgeable coaches and sailors.
The Clinic is being run by the International 420 Class in partnership with the Bahamas 420 National Class Association and Nassau Yacht Club. The 420 Class Clinic in the Bahamas is the first of several clinics taking place in 2018 and part of the 420 Class Development Programme.
