420 Class is a critical pathway choice to future sailing careers

Shmueli had been officiating at the Copa Brasil de Vela in Rio de Janeiro, so when that finished on Saturday travelled to Porto Alegre. Greeting Shmueli were Commodore Eduardo Ribas and his wife Carla Splettstößer.

In meeting sailors and suppor teams, Shmueli emphasised the role the 420 Class plays as the main pathway through to Olympic and professional sailing, saying, "The class 420 is the large base of high performance sailing. And people have a wrong idea of it, find that it is preparing for the 470. But that is not true. Note the names of the Nacra 17 sailors in Olympic campaign, see the FX such as Martine Grael and Kunze Kahena for example. They were world champions of 420 and now are world champions in 49erFX."

He continued, "The 420 is the class that gives knowledge, makes the Olympic sailor clear ahead with their techniques and tactics. See also the great Sailors will be standing in the Volvo Ocean Race, the Extreme Sailing Series, everyone has background, investigate the base and you will find the 420."
