The storms, with off-shore Northerlies, at Imperia resulted in only the Olympic Classes sailing, and they did so on only one day. With 125 + 420s from 11 nations, this was very frustrating for the organisers, competitors and their supporters. We are assured that this was freak weather (our correspondent’s landlord said so!), so we must be back next year. We hear that, while the boatpark was mainly cleared very swiftly once the Race Committee confirmed its decision, the GBR team seems to have found a bar in Imperia in which to practice their Italian until the early hours before the long drive home (more on this may be found on http://www.420sailing.org.uk). Certain ex-420 sailors (now sailing 470s) were subsequently understood to be furthering international understanding in the snows of the Swiss and French Alps!
