Maraetai Sailing Club hosted the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Championships, which also incorporated Monday's Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta. As many as 210 young sailors in 190 boats competed on three race courses.

Competition was fierce in the 420 fleet where the Auckland Sailing Championships was also being used as trials for the NZL Sailing Foundation Youth Team to compete at this year's Youth Sailing World Championships in Poland. Results from the upcoming Oceanbridge NZL Sailing Regatta, 31 January-3 February, will also count to selection for the Youth Worlds.

A clear-cut victory in the 420, saw 420 world champions Seb Menzies/Blake McGlashan win every race, apart from the last in which they did not compete. Their stylish performance gave the partnership a handy seven-point lead over Mason Mulcahy/Andre van Dam in second. Sydney Cunliffe/Rebecca Hume finished in third overall and first women's crew, 10 points ahead of the next placed women Kiera Sinton/Leah Sinton.
