ADVANCING SKILLS ON DAY 3 AT 420 CLASS CLINIC IN SOUTH AFRICA
Day 3 at the 420 Class Coaches and Sailors Clinic kicked off with a presentation by José Massapina (POR), 420 Class Vice President responsible for devleopment, introducing the various development toolkits and how to guides produced by the 420 Class.
Massapina's presentation covered the multiple the benefits of sailing and racing 420 and how the boat is critical in the development of successful youth training programs. In presenting the development tooklits, coaches and sailors were introduced to the 420 website, where as well as technical documentation such as the Class Rules can be accessed, the various 420 Class training materials,including the 420 to the Max video and Exercise e-Book of performance training exercises are published.
After the presentations, head Michalis Mileos (GRE) introduced the key principles of the Racing Rules of Sailing in a class room session, with the afternoon spent on the water with a focus on starting techniques and strategies.
The 5-day Coaches and Sailors Clinic features a packed daily programme to equip coaches and sailors with knowledge and expertise in the 420 Class, through a mix of shore side theory and on-water practical sessions. Topics will include:
