BRAZIL YOUTH CUP IS QUALIFIER FOR YOUTH WORLDS
This year’s Brazil Youth Club hosted at Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro from 10-14 October 2016 was also a qualification event for the upcoming Youth Sailing World Championships in New Zealand.
Alongside the popular 420 fleet, racing was also held for the 29er, Hobie Cat 16, Laser Radial and RSX.
A convincing performance from Gustavo Luis Ribeiro Abdullklech/Pietro Mota Geronimi pitched them as favourites from race 1, which they won. Backed up by wins in races 2,3,4,5 and 6, it was only at race 7 that the pair gave in to the pressure from Andre De Mari Fiuza/Guy Kreis who managed to squeeze past them and claim the finishing gun. Abdullklech/Geronimi returned to win race 8, before wrapping up the event title in race 9, from a conservative 6th place finish.
Second to De Mari Fiuza/Kreis, with Olivia Belda/Marina Arndt taking third and the top girls’ slot.
