Elisa Yukie Yokoyama/Samantha Annabelle Neubronner win Singapore Festive Season Regatta
A battle to the end at the Singapore Sailing Federation Festive Season Regatta held out of the Singapore National Sailing Centre, from 10-14 December 2014.
This annual event brings together sailors in the 420, 470 Men, 470 Women, Byte, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Techno 293 and SB20.
In a competitive 8 team line up of three girls and three boys teams, ultimate winners Elisa Yukie Yokoyama/Samantha Annabelle Neubronner did not have the strongest start to the series and were forced to put in a strong comeback. Ryan Teo Yee Kang/Christopher Ang Wei Cheng took the early lead, and seemed unstoppable as they racked up an all top 5 scoreline.
The turning point came for Yokoyama/Neubronner when they won race 6 and Yee Kang/Ang Wei Cheng finished 4th and the points gap started to narrow. Another win in race 9 for Yokoyama/Neubronner and repeat 4th place finish for Yee Kang/Ang Wei Cheng put the Singaporean girls even closer to the title. They again finished ahead of their rivals in race 10, and went into the medal race with a 3 point advantage.
Yee Kang/Ang Wei Cheng pulled out all the stops and won the medal race, with Yokoyama/Neubronner finishing close behind in 4th, so just too close for Yee Kang/Ang Wei Cheng’s win to make any inroad into their scoreline. Victory to Yokoyama/Neubronner and Yee Kang/Ang Wei Cheng just 1 point behind in second place. Third were Siew Shaw Her/Sebastian Siew Soon Ming on 31 points.
Yokoyama/Neubronner finished 18th at this year’s 420 Worlds and we hope to see them and all the Singaporean 420 team at the 2015 420 World Championships in Japan.
