EVENT #2 OF EUROSAF 420 RACE CIRCUIT SEES GERMANY TAKE THE HONOURS IN PORTUGAL
Sixty-six teams from across Europe were joined by faces from the USA for the 2019 Vilamoura Carnival Regatta hold at Clube Internacional da Marina de Vilamoura over the weekend of 2-4 March 2019, which was also event #2 of the EUROSAF 420 Class Race Circuit.
Germany's Johathan Steidle/Leonard Honold opened their account with some mixed results, but soon settled down to take out a series of top 10 results, after discarding their 20th in race 2, to secure their victory ahead of the final race. The pair could then sail safe and let the tussle for 2nd and 3rd unfold in the chasing pack. Four teams were in the hunt for the final podium places and all change in the final race, saw a 4th place finish push Beatriz Gago/Marta Fortunato (POR) move up into second and Sophie Steinlein/Guillermo Vicente (GER) take out third.
Plenty more 420 Class racing action coming up in Portugal, with the 2019 Portuguese National Junior Championship from 15-18 April, the 2019 Portuguese 4th National Qualifier from 18-19 May, ahead of the climax of the year being the 420 Worlds from 3-11 July.
Event #3 of the EUROSAF Race Circuit heads to Athens from 22-25 March, then event #4 in France from 16-21 April before the 2018/2019 circuit wraps up at Kieler Woche, Germany from 27-30 June 2019.
