Girls dominated the podium at the Spanish 420 Class National Championship held from 9-15 April 2017 at Real Club Nautico de Vigo.

The huge line-up of 86 boats were split across two fleets for the 6-race qualification series, ahead of advancing to either gold or silver fleets for the 4-race final series. The mainly Spanish fleet were joined by 4 Portuguese teams.

Sisters Maria Caba/Pilar Caba set the early running winning the opening race in the blue fleet, whilst brothers Enrique Lujan/Pablo Lujan matched their form in the yellow fleet. But as the Championship unfolded it was the girl helms who controlled the race track and took all three spots on the podium.

Marta Garrido/Clara Llabres took overall victory by 5 points over 2015 Women's National Champion Maria Bover racing with a male crew, Nacho Balaguer, who finished 2nd. Third to Maria Caba/Pilar Caba.

Top U19 finishers were Eduard Ferrer I Carvajal/Carlos de Maqua in 5th, with 8th placed Giulietta Lang Buchner/Tess Provenzal Kok securing the top placed U17 team.
