RECORD NUMBER OF 420 TEAMS CONTEST COPPA ITALIA 1
Held over 1-3 March 2019, the launch event of the Coppa Italia series was organized by Yacht Club Sanremo and held at Marina degli Aregai and attracted an 84 boat line up, of which 39 teams were U17.
Elisabetta Fedele/Beatrice Martini (ITA) started out in strong form, winning the first race as their opener to lay down their claim on the title. Their 39th place in race 2, was soon dismissed as they went on to rack up two more wins.
Behind, their main challenge came from Alessandro Caldari/Federico Caldari who opened their scorecard with a 3,1, before Fedele/Martini found their groove and went on to outpace them round the track. These two set the standard, with the rest of the fleet trying to haul them in.
Fedele/Martini went in to the final race 6 counting just 5 points, with the Caldari brothers on 11 points, so a sufficient buffer to withstand their 8th place in the final race and hand the women's team victory.
Behind, it was a closely fought battle for third place, with the final podium place decided on tiebreak and going to Davide Manica/Eugenio Di Meco over Demetrio Sposato/Gabriele Centrone. Manica/Di Meco also took the title for the top placed U17 team.
