REPORT FROM 420 GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING
The 2019 General Assembly meeting of the International 420 Class Association took place on 7 July 2019 in Vilamoura, Portugal, during the 2019 420 World Championship.
The meeting was attended by representatives from 21 420 National Class Associations around the world: Australia, Angola, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and USA.
Key discussions items and decisions taken were:
Venue for 2021 420 World Championships - Bahia, Brazil was approved as the venue, with the proposed dates of early January 2021 to be confirmed.
Venue for 2021 Open European Championship - St Moritz, Switzerland was approved as the venue, with the dates during July-August to be confirmed.
Venue for 2021 Junior European Championship - the 470 Class has selected Weymouth, Great Britain as the venue, with the dates to be confirmed.
Criteria for certification of 420 Sailing Centres - building on the long-established 420 Class development programmes, the 420 Class has introduced a certification standard to recognized sailing centres that offer training and facilities for 420 Class sailing. The certification will be launched in the coming months.
2019-2020 Development Plan - the GAM endorsed the 420 Class Development Plan for the year ahead, including planned Coaches and Sailors Clinics, promotional opportunities in partnership with the Optimist Class, coaching support at 420 Championships and the Youth Worlds and the new addition of a tuning video to the 420 toolkit.
Finance - the 2018 Annual Accounts were approved and Michael Rudnick (President of US 420 Class Association) was appointed as the auditor for the year end 31 December 2019.
Event Measurement System - for 2020 there will be an experimental simplification in the event measurement system which will divide the fleet into a so called ‘full’ measurement and a ‘simple’ measurement requirement, based on national rankings or national regatta results, in order to save time and effort in the measurement process.
