The weather in Istanbul has played it’s part to perfection in the run up to the start of the International 420 Class European and Ladies European Championships. 64 entries in the Open fleet and 54 boats in the Ladies Championship have now been registered and measured.

The opening ceremony took place in calm, warm conditions with sailors and guests enjoying parades, music, fireworks and a spectacular display of fire-dancing followed by a little fully-clothed action in the swimming pool.

Overnight the temperature started to drop and the wind began to rise. The practise race saw challenging winds of 20 to 25 knots and medium seas, with both fleets having to work hard to complete the course. With conditions expected to remain this way for the start of the championships, this promises to be an excellent event.
