The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mrs. Angela Merkel, opened KIEL WEEK officially on Saturday evening, June 17, 2006, and wished the over 5.000 competitors, from 50 nations, fair races and good sailing during the 124th anniversary of KIEL WEEK.

Unfortunately, the sailors waited for wind on Saturday, only the 29ers got racing initially on Sunday in a Force 3, and, although other classes had evening races, the 420s did not sail. Today (midday, Monday), we see that the 420s have managed one race so far – and at this early stages it seems that the French are giving the Germans a sail for their money!
