SUCCESS FOR INDONESIA'S FIRST 420 CLASS SAILORS AND COACHES CLINIC
The final day of the 420 Class Coaches and Sailors Clinic on Sunday 4 December saw Head Coach Nikos Drougas (GRE) run through a wrap up of skills and techniques learned over the previous 5 days, alongside informative insights on progress made and ongoing areas for improvement.
Coaches and sailors recognize the massive leap forward made possible by the 420 Clinic, but equally appreciate the unfinished business as they continue the transition down their ambitious pathway ahead.
The large number of coaches and sailors participating brought together many different levels of experience. With Nikos Drougkas guiding, much of the clinic’s success was down to the simplicity of the coaching techniques, alongside the very clear desire of participants to soak up the knowledge.
Admiral Darwanto, President of the Indonesia Sailing Federation, joined the clinic on Sunday and expressed his thanks to the International 420 Class Association, José Massapina and Nikos Drougkas.
Jose Massapina commented, “The International 420 Class is very privileged to make such ground-breaking progress in Indonesia. This clinic has been a fantastic opportunity to develop relationships, share knowledge and further establish the partnership between the 420 Class and the Indonesian Sailing Federation. We are very grateful to the team at the Indonesian Sailing Federation and all the on-site participants for making this clinic possible.”
The Clinic took place from 30 November-4 December, with the objective to realize the potential of coaches and sailors through growing their knowledge. Across the five days of the clinic, time was spent on a mix of on-water sessions, lectures, exercises and presentations, with both theory and practicals.
Hosted by the Indonesian Sailing Federation, participants counted a mix of male and female, with 25 coaches and 10 sailors, joining this “free of charge” five-day clinic. Find out more about the aims of the Sailors and Coaches Clinic and take a look at the Facebook Photo Gallery.
