Our news team from Argentina are busy again! Our man-on-the-water, Francisco Sucari, has filed the following report on the intrepid team’s journey and arrival for the South American Championship: “After 3000 km of dangerous roads and heavy rains, the Argentine team arrived at Iate Clube Rio de Janeiro on Saturday afternoon. The only two boats from Argentina travelled in a trailer all the way from Buenos Aires!!! Again, Verdino-Sanchez Brizuela and Sucari-Renna will be the ones in charge of representing our country”. And on Sunday, Agustin Zappacosta, who they have left i/c of the news desk back home in Buenos Aires, says “they told me they were looking forward to sailing in the difficult currents of Rio. As Verdino said, ‘We are anxious to start the championship here, we hope the winds pick up and the rain stops!’. And Francisco Renna commented on the venue, ‘The Guanabara Bay is a very difficult racing area, with lots of different currents and changing tides. Luckily the winds will pick up and make a great four days of racing’. Also travelling with the team, Genaro Maggi, their ever-present coach [we hear he graduated since he led his team to Istanbul at last year’s Europeans (ed)] said, ‘There is a competitive field, with a couple of Chilean boats and the local Brazilians. With only one discard in 10 races the margins for error will be very small, so it will probably be a very close competition".

We would very much like to hear from Brazil and Chile too! Meanwhile, racing starts on Wednesday, 19 March and news will surely first be found on the Iate Clube de Janeiro website (go to Vela > Calend
