UPDATE FROM DAY 3 OF 420 CLINIC IN MYANMAR
The 5 coaches and 26 sailors participating at the first ever 420 Clinic in Myanmar enjoyed another packed day of shoreside theory and on water practice.
Under the guidance of lead coach Nikos Drougkas (GRE) and 420 Vice-President for Development, Jose Massapina (POR), Friday kicked off with a video review of Thursday’s on water sessions, identifying improvements to be made and effective implementation. Demonstrating the knowledge gained so far, two sailors gave a presentation on the steps to instigate and complete a roll tack.
The shoreside session moved on to reviewing the “420 to the Max” learning resource, which is a free online training video providing coaching and training tips for both beginner and experienced 420 sailors. The video introduces a range of specific techniques, and demonstrates how to master them in different wind and sea conditions and what to consider when undertaking a range of manoeuvres.
The videos are available in English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese:
Progress compared to day 1 is significant, with the coaches adapting superbly to the coaching skills and techniques learnt, and pushing their sailors to perform.
A five hour on-water session covered windward/leeward courses, with a focus on tacking, gybes and mark rounding. Sailors also spent time on tactics at the mark, calling the layline to the mark.
Day 3 ended with a debrief ashore.
Organized with the support of the Myanmar Yachting Federation, the clinic will help to improve the skill level of both coaches and sailors in the region.
The Clinic in Myanmar is the first in a series of Clinics which are being held in South America, Asia and Europe, including a High Level Coaches Clinic in Italy from 1-5 October, for which registration is still open.
