Mason/Schieber & Weguelin/Hughes poised at GBR Youths

With 25+ knots of wind (gusts over 30), one race was sailed. Richard Mason & Daniel Schieber, recent winners at Vilamoura Carnival, and Sophie Weguelin & Katrina Hughes are poised for the kill with the final day's racing tomorrow (Friday). GBR Team places for the ISAF Youths are to be decided at the event at Weymoujth & Portland Sailing Academy tomorrow night.

GBR Youth and Women's Youth Champions decided in Weymouth

The culmination of five days of racing at Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy, venue for the 2006 ISAF Youth Championships and the 2012 Olympics, came today with a series of nail-biting, very close contests on the water.

The top three boats held their positions from yesterday following a further two races today. Roberto Paradeda & Gabriel Kieling have a 5 point lead over José Ribeiro & Denise Chagas, but Juliana Mota & Kyra Penido, the leading women, are just one point behind them. Decisive win for Roberto Dias Paradeda - Gabriel Kieling dos Santos in the Brazilian Southern Championships, triumphing by 6 points. José Ribeiro & Denise Chagas were 2nd and Juliana Mota & Kyra Penido (first women), who had taken one race from Paradeda & Kieling, took the bronze slot. Both recently returned from some big fleet competition in the UK, Gertjan & Koen Cleeren have beaten 2005 Belgium National Champions, Nikolaas van de Loock & Mathieu Seynaeve to win the Optispring 2006 at Stellendam by one point! Pieter van Notten & & Jasper Kleuweg took third place.

Mason & Schieber hold lead in GBR Team Selection Series

Sunderland YC, in the North East of England, was the venue for the 2nd GBR Selector and Open Regatta. Richard Mason & Daniel Schieber won, retaining their overall lead, but James & Will Rusden of Royal Lymington YC had a great event, with 2 x 2nds and a 1st, boosting their Series' standing by 20 places! Hannah Mills & Peggy Webster were 3rd (2nd overall in the Series).
