International interest at the GBR Open/Selector at Weymouth & Portland NSA

72 boats arrived at WPNSA for the first of three open & selection events. In addition to the GBR fleet, 420s from France (9), Germany (2) and Ireland (4) crossed the Channel/Irish Sea to compete & to check out Weymouth and Portland, the venue for the 2006 ISAF Youths & 2012 Olympics. Racing was abandoned at 13.00 on Saturday with the average wind speed just below 30 knots & gusts of nearly 40, 4 races were achieved on Sunday, providing a discard.

The top three boats held their positions from yesterday following a further two races today. Roberto Paradeda & Gabriel Kieling have a 5 point lead over José Ribeiro & Denise Chagas, but Juliana Mota & Kyra Penido, the leading women, are just one point behind them.
