The Cleerans win Optispring 2006

Both recently returned from some big fleet competition in the UK, Gertjan & Koen Cleeren have beaten 2005 Belgium National Champions, Nikolaas van de Loock & Mathieu Seynaeve to win the Optispring 2006 at Stellendam by one point! Pieter van Notten & & Jasper Kleuweg took third place.

Evans & Burling NZ Nat Champs; Hill & Kennedy take the Women’s

Carl Evans & Peter Burling of Kohimarama/Tauranga YCs won the 2006 NZ National Champs at Naval Point Club Lyttelton by a 5 point margin. Simon Cooke & Scott Illingworth of Kohimarama YC were 2nd and Michael Langley & Riley Dean of Howick SC/Naval Point were 3rd. 4 Belgian boats cross North Sea to Sunderland for GBR Open meeting

After two races today (Saturday 01/04/06), we see Richard Mason & Daniel Schieber, recent victors at Vilamoura Carnivalk Regatta, lead the 54 boat field at Sunderland YC, for the 2nd GBR Worlds/Jnr Euros team Selector and Open meeting. Mason & Schieber hold lead in GBR Team Selection Series

Sunderland YC, in the North East of England, was the venue for the 2nd GBR Selector and Open Regatta. Richard Mason & Daniel Schieber won, retaining their overall lead, but James & Will Rusden of Royal Lymington YC had a great event, with 2 x 2nds and a 1st, boosting their Series' standing by 20 places! Hannah Mills & Peggy Webster were 3rd (2nd overall in the Series).

GBR Richard Mason & Daniel Schieber of R Lymington YC/Burghfield SC held their lead (3 bullets on Sunday) by 10 points and, with a race in hand, took the Vilamoura Carnival Regatta 2006 420 events on Monday.

Vilamoura gets underway on Day 2

Seems that the conditions remained challenging at Vilamoura on Sunday, but two thirds of the fleet made it out to rthe course and three races were completed. Richard Mason & Daniel Schieber lead from David Brewer & Oren Richards in 2nd and Felipe Parejo & Pablo Fernandez in 3rd. All to be decided tomorrow, with some close points carried overnight.. News from Aus and their upcoming Nationals – wind good, mind the turtles and the jelly fish!

With the Australian 420 Nationals due to start at Mooloolaba Bay on Wednesday 28 December, things are hotting up ‘down under’ – well, 26*C actually, with occasional scorchers of 38 – 41! Have you seen the pre-event training on the Photo Archive?
We have a news up-date from the Australian Class, linked above.
