Coupe Nationale, Carnac, France: 8 - 14 July

We have had some international enquiries about the Coupe Nationale. This is one of a series of national events of the French 420 Class, following their annual international event, CIMA, held each year in April in the Mediterranean. Last year a large contingent of GBR boats went to the Coupe Nationale - they said they wanted big fleet experience before the Worlds in Brest, but we think they may have known what a good place Brittany is in summer!

We know there are sailors from both Northern & Southern Hemispheres planning to enter the French National Championship this year in Carnac, Brittany. The Carnac YCC, in conjunction with the French 420 Class, have published the Notice of Race, Entry Form and Information in French & English on their excellent website. La bonne voile dans Carnac !

The winds blow and the girls go....!

so says Lucy Burn organiser of the 2003 GBR Women’s Dinghy Sailing Championships sailed at Hayling Island SC last weekend – a weekend when the coastguard announced a force 9 imminent on the emergency channel and the Isle of Weight hovercraft suspended sailings in the Solent. But the 420 women were in excellent form, in their element in great 420 conditions, with 5 of the 6 top placed being 420s and the 5th placed being two well-known 420 sailors sailing a 470! Amelia Hughes of Royal Corinthian SC and Lesley Bannister of South Cerney SC were crowned Women’s Dinghy Sailing Champions 2006.

Ben Saxton & James Foskett retain their lead by 14 points at Nieuwpoort after 8 races, but Florian Dziesiaty & Oliver Szymanski (34) and Daniel Zepuntke, Leon Bischoff-Everding (42) (both GER) have overtaken , Frances Peters & Kate Sparks (46) and Tim Saxton & Claire Lasko (47) (both GBR) for 2nd and 3rd placings today.
