2012 420 South American Championships
On Sunday 6 January, after 7 days of racing and 10 races, the 2012 South American 420 Championship came to an end. Twenty-three teams participated - 13 from Brazil, 9 from Argentina and 1 Chilen team) - and after 10 races the Brazilian team of Daniel Lombardi/Gabriel Sequeira secured victory, with a 4 point lead, but it was close all the way with the title going down to the last race.
Lombardi/Sequeira went into the deciding race 10 on equal points with Felipe Haddad/Gabriel Tolentino (BRA), and a race win was theirs for the taking, which they did, to secure overall victory. Not such a strong performance when it mattered most from Haddad/Tolentino who finished 9th in the race to end the Championship second overall.
Behind these top two teams, both the third placed Bernardo Penteado/Breno Abdulklech (BRA) and the fourth placed pairing of Gonzalo Bizi/Thomas Volker (ARG) both had every opportunity to also finish at the top, with only a few points separating all the teams.
The top female crews were Claudia Mazzaferro/Luiza Peiter (BRA) in 8th overall, followed by Leticia Nicolino/Carolina Castro (BRA) in 16th overall, with the Chilean team of Antonia Ugarte/Francisca Ugarte in 21st overall.
