2020 Coaches and Sailors Clinic - Manta, Ecuador - Final day report
After 5 days of learning activities, a new Coaches and Sailors Clinic concluded today at Manta Yacht Club in Ecuador, as part of our 2020 420 Class Development Programme.
Report from Mr. Jose Massapina - Vice-President - Int. 420 Class.
Today, the 4th of March we finished the 420 Coaches and Sailors Clinic here in Manta, Ecuador. We had a morning session with meteorology, forecast and setting of the boat regading that, racing strategy and racing tactics. Then we went afloat doing multiple races, in order to evaluate the evolution of the sailors in the different training skills and finally we produced a ranking with the results of the races.
Coming ashore, we did the closing ceremony of the clinic, delivering certificates to all the attendants with the presence of the president of the Ecuadorian Sailing Federation that came expressly for this purpose from Guayaquil and also to understand the enthusiasm of the sailors looking how important it is, to support this double handed boat that will give much more opportunities to the sailors in this country, after the Optimist.
In the end of the day I had a very good meeting with the president of the Ecuadorian Sailing Federation that stated his support to the 420 Class in Ecuador, buying two more boats and helping with equipments and logistic (sails, introduce the 420 on the racing national circuit, give some support with their national coach and helping with the transportation to events).
In terms of evaluation of the clinic, I must say that in my point of view, this clinic was a strong kick-off for a nice 420 future in Ecuador.
