Jun 2014

The heat was on last weekend at Circola Vela Arco as ninety-six 420 teams took to the Lake Garda race track with one mission - securing selection to represent Italy at this year's 420 World and Ladies World Championships in Travemunder, Germany and the 420 Junior Europeans in Gydnia, Poland.

This event, the Selezione Nazionale 420, was the last chance to qualify for the pinnacle 420 Championships of the year. With strict quota limits in place, making the cut for the 7 open and 7 ladies places for the 420 Worlds and 7 place for the 420 Junior Europeans awarded to Italy is tough.

Three days of racing and perfect breeze for the 3 races a day programme, for the 9 race series. Some seriously talented young sailors went head to head with the final scoreboard just giving a margin of 6 points between the top three boats.

The overall win to Demi Rio/Francesco Rossi assures them of their place in the starting line-up, with Patrick Zeni/Kevin Rio in second and Dimitri Peroni/Michele Cecchin in third. Just one win in their scoreline, but consistency counts and Rio/Rossi had plenty of that to seal their win by 2 points over Zeni/Rio

The first female and under-19 team were Clara Addari/Arianna Perini.
