Coupe Internationale Mediterranéenne de l'Amitié
Ten races, 88 teams from 4 nations competing and four stunning days of racing delivered an outstanding and memorable event for all competitors and host club, Cercle de Voile de Martigues, France.
Guillaume Pirouelle/Valentin Sipan (FRA) had moved to the top of the leaderboard after the third day of racing, seeing off some tough competition from early leaders Yvann Thelier/Gauthier Germain (FRA), who finished in third overall. In the there was only 2 points in it., with Pirouelle/Sipan on 23 points and the second placed Nicolas Ferrellec/Baptiste Szekely on 25 points – winning 7 races between them.
Holding onto their position as top girls' team were Nora Trueb/Julia Corbelli (FRA) who finished in 12th overall, with Jennifer Poret/Louise Chevet (FRA) second girls' in 14th ovearll and Laure Ferchaud/Juliette Le Friec third girls' in 18th overall.
Bright sunshine and a light breeze greeted the teams on the final day's racing with an east wind of 10 knots early morning, which veered to the south-east around 1200 hours, before increasing to 25 knots and gusts up to 35 knots, forcing the Organizing Committee to abandon racing for the day.
For the French teams, the Coupe Internationale Méditerranéenne de l’Amitié event was critical as it impacted on the teams to be selected for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, 2012 420 World and Ladies World Championships and 2012 420 Junior European Championships. The selected teams are due to be announced soon.
