DAY 3 UPDATE FROM INDONESIA - 420 CLASS COACHES AND SAILORS CLINIC

Day 3 at the 420 Class Coaches and Sailors Clinic in Indonesia saw another packed day of on-water practice and classroom theory.

ALL EVENT INFORMATION

Coaches and sailors attending come from sailing clubs around Indonesia, jumping at the opportunity to join the clinic which marks the first time a Class Association has supported a dedicated training programme in the country. Leading the clinic are 420 Class Vice-President Jose Massapina (POR) and Head Coach Nikos Drougkas (GRE).

Taking place over 5 days in Jakarta, Indonesia the clinic is all about sharing the knowedge and accelarating the knowledge acquisition.

Coaches M.I. Gunawan from Bengkaus Yacht Club, and Tedi Hidayat from West Sumatera Yacht Club, commented: "This is the first time that a Class Association is coming from abroad to organize a clinic and this is very helpful . We are enjoying and learning a lot with Nikos."

Teddy Abbay, President of Sanubari Sailing Club in Berneo: "My club has one of the biggest 420 fleets in Indonesia, and this clinic is really important for us and the entire country. I came here to learn and see what it was all about. The sailors and coaches are learning so many important techniques and they will improve a lot. The 420 Class is very important for us, and we are committed to the boat for our youth training."

Siew Shaw Her Siew represented Singapore in the 470 Class at the 1998, 1992 and 1996 Olympics. Shaw currently supports the Indonesian Sailing Federation as a coach with a focus on trapeze boats and youth programmes: "I am impressed with what the 420 Class and Nikos Drougkas are doing. The style of using simple techniques and easy mechanisms to teach the coaches and young sailors and help them learn faster are innovative. The 420 is a fantastic boat."

Diki Zulfikar, an experienced coach from West Jawa Sailing: "I am very happy with the clinic and have improved my knowledge of 420 sailing a lot."

Hosted at the Indonesian Sailing Federation headquarters in Jakarta, participants count a mix of male and female, with 25 coaches and 10 sailors, joining this “free of charge” five-day clinic.The clinic continues on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December. Take a look at the programme.
