Deckers & Bos - new Dutch Youth Champs
Max Deckers & Duko Bos (22 points) are the 2009 Dutch 420 Youth Champions. Dirk Bennen & Christiaan van Garderen were 2nd (25 pts) at Workum and Sanne Crum & Perry Gebuijs 3rd (33 pts). We found that the event’s newsletter carried a great photo of Sanne Crum & Perry Gebuis racing in some good 420 wind on the IJsselmeer off Workum on Sunday. It reads: ‘Perry Gebuis is euphoric today, because he and his crew [sic - but we were sure that Sanne was steering (Ed)] won the last race. “We didn’t have a good start, but managed to get free wind. We just paid a lot of attention to the wind shifts and our boat speed was superb”. Once they had taken the lead, they only had to defend it. Crew [? (ed)] Sanne Crum: “That’s much easier.”’ Meanwhile, ‘Liselotte Bulstra and Noor Kahmann thought they messed up the second race. “We capsized twice. Once, because we unexpectedly had to tack in a port, starboard situation. And later again because there was a sudden gust of wind when we rounded the jibe buoy. But we weren’t the only team swimming at that buoy”. During that race their main sail was torn in the top. “That’s a bummer, because it’s our best sail.” However, they still became 13th, and don’t seem too worried about the course of events. “We don’t think we’ll qualify for the ISAF Worlds, and we’re busy with our exams” [we know how you feel (ed)], ....and we like these newsletters!
