Final results in Vilamoura - Meet the 2022 420 Junior European Champions!
The 2022 420 & 470 Junior European Championships concluded today in Vilamoura, Portugal.
Nice sailing conditions enlightened the end of the event, with winds varying from 10-13 knots and a nice swell.
After 3 new races added to the rankings today, the following are the new 2022 420 Junior European medalists!
Final results - 420 Open - Men/Mixed
The Men/Mixed overnight leaders Ian Walker March / Finn Dicke ESP repeated a wonderful performance today on water, scoring a 1-2 in the first two races and crowned champions prior to the last race. They wrapped the event with 17 points and winning 3 of the 9 races.
The Men/Mixed vice championship title was also for Spain, with Marc Mesquida / Ramon Jaume Villanueva ESP concluding the competition on second place overall with 59 points.
The non-European sailors Freddie Parkin / Asher Beck USA were third in the European Trophy with 65.
The third Men/Mixed European’s place was for the Italians Alessio Castellan / Jan Mateo Bassi ITA with 74.
Final results - 420 Open - Women
The overnight leaders Camilla Michelini / Margherita Bonifaccio ITA had not the best day today, but their results were enough to keep the first Women’s spot and crowned Junior European champions with 76 points, in the 5th place overall.
Greek sailors Dimitra Vartholomaiou / Metaxia Gogou GRE were the Women’s vice champions with 90 points. Alice Vandi / Juliette Bourgeois FRA were third with 139 units.
Final results - 420 Under 17 - Men/Mixed
A terrific 5-4-1-5-3-1 in the last two days made the Greek team formed by Panagiotis Sotiriou / Symeon Michalopoulos GRE to climb to the top and crowned the new U17 Men/Mixed champions with 41 points.
The overnight leaders Severin Gericke / Xaver Schwarz GER were finally third overall and second Men/Mixed with 65. Afonso Munhá / Duarte Reis POR were third with 76.
Final results - 420 Under 17 - Women
Germans Amelie Wehrle / Amelie Rinn GER were crowned U17 Women’s champions by finishing 2nd overall with 64 points.
Nicola Jane Sadler / Sofia Cavaco Torres ESP were second Women’s and 6th overall, tied in 78 points with Iakovina Kerkezou / Danae Giannouli GRE, who were finally third.
