With a fourth and a new win (the fourth one here in Oman) the Spanish team formed by Neus Ballesteros / Andrea Perello ESP secured the 2021 Youth Sailing World's Gold medal today, one day before the end of the championship. With an impressive 3-1-3-1-3-1-4-1 score they total 13 points with one race to spare.

"It’s great to win in this strong fleet," said Perello. "The Americans are the World Champions in the class and there are so many strong teams, the French, the Italians." Ballester revealed the secret to their success: "We felt relaxed all week. We enjoyed ourselves and really liked the conditions in Oman. Super tricky and hard to read the wind, but I was head out of the boat all the time, looking around for the best wind." Neus is the daughter of José Luis Ballester who won a medal for Spain in the Tornado catamaran in Atlanta 1996. She couldn’t remember what colour though. "Gold," her crew reminded her, rolling her eyes. "Your father won gold!" Perello shouted, exasperated but laughing. Now Perello and the next generation of the Ballester family have won their own gold.

Silver and Bronze medal spots are currently in hands of the reigning 2021 420 Women's World Champions Vanessa Lahrkamp / Katherine McNamara USA (1-9-4-2-1-14-1-4) and the French team formed by Manon Pennnaneac'h / Victoire Lerat FRA (11-2-1-3-4-3-6-9) with 22 and 28 points respectively. Very close to them with 31 points appear Camila Michelini / Margherita Bonifacio ITA (2-5-2-14-5-9-2-6) and Dimitra Vartolomaiou / Metaxia Gogou GRE (4-6-20DSQ-5-2-4-7-3).

The 420 Men/Mixed Youth Worlds Gold medal has not been decided yet, although the Spanish team formed by Ian Clive / Finn Dicke ESP (4-3-5-1-11-7-7-4) has the best chances to win it. They have been leading the championship during the last days and count with a 3 points gap and a better discard over their pursuers Roi Levy / Ariel Gal ISR (14-1-1-7-1-12-9-3). Also close to the Gold or Silver medal positions are the Germans Florian Krauss / Jannis Summchenn GER (2-11-2-6-15-3-10-2), 2 points behind Israel. The Japanese team formed by Kaito Ikeda / Shun Shigematsu JPN has also mathematical chances for winning Silver or Bronze on the last race tomorrow. The Turkish team formed by Can Erturk / Ali Beren Adamcil TUR will be also in the fight for Bronze. The reigning 2021 420 Men/Mixed World Champions Tommy Sitzmann / Luke Woodworth USA could never enter this time in the Medals discussion, particularly after receiving two penalties on the first days, but they could reward themselves today at least by winning one of the races.

The 9th and last trial will come tomorrow to decide all 5 pending medals. The Men/Mixed fleet will start racing at 12:00, while the Women will do it at 14:30 (local time). Remember you can follow both races live through the tracking system at sapsailing.com
