At the Imperia Winter Regatta, we are promised some challenging competition too.

In the women’s competition, top Spanish team, Agueda Suria & Sofia Basterra, in a new partnership, recently took the Women’s top podium place at the French ‘national d’automne’ at Maubuisson (12/121 overall); Agueda is a seasoned helm: Silver at the 2006 ISAF Youths and 4th at this year’s Europeans in Istanbul. But there will be close competition from Tina Lutz & Susann Beucke (GER) who won the Women’s at the Junior Europeans and were 2nd at Imperia in 2006. Home team, Camilla Marino & Claudia Sopricelli were 12th in Istanbul and 10th women in Medemblik. But the substantial Greek entry includes Katerina & Sofia Kaitatsidou who took Silver in Istanbul and Afroditi Kiranakou who helmed the 7th boat at the Women’s Europeans.

The Open competition at Imperia will be hard fought too! Max Trippolt & Julian Meister (Austria) have just taken 3rd place (of the 121 entry) at Maubuisson. The French entry includes the Porez, Louis & Charles, who won Maubuisson, a couple of places ahead of Trippolt/Meister both there and in Medemblik at the Junior Euros. Giovanni Meloni & Alessandro Gemini were 12th at the Junior Euros and 17th at the Europeans, so they should lead the large Italian entry. Again in the Open, the Greeks are coming to Imperia with a large team, and helm, Michalis Stavrou, with a 20th in the Gold Fleet at Medemblik, will surely put up a challenge. We are delighted to see that Lovro Ivanov, who had his 14th birthday at Medemblik, will, with Marko Caric, be representing Croatia at this event
