A first for the 420 Class in late-June as we hosted our first ever 420 Class Coaches and Sailors Clinic in Lithuania, which was a huge success and boosted skill levels.

Many nations have been running their final training sessions as teams prepare to battle it out with the best 420 class sailors in the world at the 420 Championships, so a quieter period for events, but still plenty of race track action. Check out our full results listings.

Tomorrow, 1 July, marks the launch pad for 420 Championship season, with the 420 Worlds in Portugal from 3-11 July and the 420 Junior Europeans from 23-30 July in Spain. 420 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Worlds and Junior Europeans

420 Worlds - with just 2 days to go until this year's World Championship kicks off, we can't wait to meet the 460 sailors who are joining us from all over the world, as well of course the coaches, parents and support teams.

Racing will be held across Open, Women and U17 fleets - with mixed gender and single gender teams competing.

We are super proud that the 420 Worlds has secured ECO event status and those of you in Vilamoura will see plenty of environmentally friendly initiatives. Please support us.

Allen Brothers, the leading UK manufacturer of performance hardware, is providing prizes to the podium finishers with vouchers from £300 to £100 up for grabs, as well as aerovanes.

If you are looking for an almost new 420, now is the time as NEWBLUE.EU is selling their once used charter boats immediately after the 420 Worlds.

Make sure you check out our package of media services - and get the best bits from our photo, video, blog, news and social updates.

The 420 Worlds has already hit the TV screens with our media partner, RTP, the Portuguese National TV channel, who have produced a promotional video aimed at bringing 420 sailing and sailing in general to a wider public, which is set to reach over 300 million potential viewers. Follow the Championship website to check out the live streaming too.

Don't forget to download the official Worlds APP and keep up to date with all the racing action from your favourite sailors wherever you are.

Junior Europeans - coming up immediately after the 420 Worlds, the Junior Europeans features racing in fleets of open, men and women teams in U19 and U17 divisions.

Entry is open, so still time to join the 256 sailors from around the world already in the line-up.

AFRICA

South Africa

Just about to compete at their first ever 420 World Championship are South Africa's Matt Ashwell and Rivaldo Arendse. 15 year old Ashwell won the Optimist African Championship in December last year and was subsequently invited to compete at the 420 Worlds, where the pair will  race with the support of the 420 Class and Vilamoura Sailing. Take a read of their journey to the 420 Worlds.

AMERICAS

Canada, USA

Brothers Justin Callahan/Mitchell Callahan racked up an impressive scorecard of eight race wins from 11 races to dominate at the US Sailing Youth Championships.

We were delighted to read that Sail Canada, the national governing body for sailing in Canda, is launching a Youth Development Squad. Looking forward to 420 sailors being part of this initiative.

ASIA

Thailand

EUROPE

Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal

Kieler Woche in Germany has just wrapped up with Poland's Patryk Kosmalski/Tomas Lewandowski taking race honours. As the final event of the inaugural EUROSAF 420 Race Circuit, overall season results will be announced tomorrow, including the prizes of free entries to the upcoming 420 Junior Europeans.

Held in collaboration with the Vilamoura Open Regatta, the 420 Class is onto day 3 of the Pre-Worlds Clinic in Vilamoura, with over 80 teams taking advantage of expert coaching from three Olympians.

97 boats battled it out in the 420 fleet at the Young Europeans Sailing, a premier event in Germany for junior teams. Germany's Jonathan Steidle/Leonardo Honold have racked up multiple wins so far this season, and added yet more kudos to their partnership by claiming victory. They will be aiming for a front of fleet finish at the 420 Worlds too.

Austria's finest headed to Lake Neusiedlersee for the Spring Cup with Johanna Schmidt/Hannah Schranzhofer cleaning up.

Victory at Hungary's Nádas Cup Sorozat went to Zsigmond Fulop/Balazs Fulop on the stunning Lake Balaton.

36 Polish and Swiss 420 teams enjoyed the chance to race on the same waters which will host the Youth Worlds in July, when they got together in Gydnia, Poland for the Puchar Prezydenta Miasta Gdyni. A 7 point advantage gave the win to Switzerland's Samira Rost/Natascha Rost.

In Italy, Elena Oddone/Francesca Riano won the 2019 Trofeo Uniqua.

OCEANIA

Australia, New Zealand

420 teams are on notice that the defending 420 Open World Champions, Seb Menzies/Black McGlashan intend to retain their Worlds title in Portugal. Last year they won by a whopping 48 points. Follow the action at the 420 Worlds to see if they can repeat their mammoth achievement.

Ryan Littlechild/Jack Ferguson (AUS) wrapped up victory at Australia's East Coast Championship with 5 wins from 8 light wind races. We will be seeing them at the 420 Worlds too. Over the same weekend, the 2019 Gill Sorrento Midwinters rewarded Linus Talacko/Lachie Grogan with event honours.

The 420 is always popular for team racing and in New Zealand the CJ Gardner Home Open Team Sailing National Championships attracted 11 teams from across the country. Winners were Kiwi Racing Team who controlled and won every one of their races.

CLINICS, OPTIMIST SAILORS AND A NEW SPONSOR

Chinese Taipei, France, Lithuania, Portugal

Our first ever 420 Class Coaches and Sailors Clinic in Lithuania welcomed 20 participants from Belarus, Lithuania and the Ukraine. A super five days with numerous new skills learnt under the guidance of 420 Class coach Nikos Drougkas. Lots of videos and photos on Facebook to take a look at.

The 420 Class checked into the Optimist Europeans to give sailors a chance to 'have a go' in a 420 at Crozon-Morgat, France - which is also the venue for the 420 Worlds in 2020. Great feedback and lots of excitement from the junior sailors as we welcomed a whole raft of new fans to the 420.

Over 80 sailors are getting in some last minute training at the 420 Class Pre-Worlds clinic, which is currently underway in Vilamoura, Portugal

Thanks again to Allen Brothers, who have joined the 420 Class as a partner to our Development Programme. Allen is kindly giving a complete set of 420 boat fittings for each Clinic we run, to replace broken or tired parts and enable sailors to focus on sailing and not worry about their kit. There were lots of BIG thank you's from the sailors in Lithuania - watch just one - oh go on then, and this one too!

Coming up next is our Clinic in Chinese Taipei - which will be another first for the 420 - from 15-19 August. Click here for more information and to register.

Any newcomers to the 420 Class out there who need a recap on boat set-up and rigging - then take a watch of our 'how to' video.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

7 July 2019

Make sure your National Class Association appoints a representative to this year's General Assembly meeting taking place on Sunday 7 July, during the 420 Worlds in Vilamoura, Portugal.
