New Zealand’s annual Youthsail (NZ ISAF Youth team selector) was held at Naval Point, Lyttelton. By the last day, with just one point separating the top men’s and the top women’s teams, the wind dropped and, in spite of short bursts, an 180* shift and an attempt to get on the water in the late afternoon, it transpired that the decision had been made after race 8 the day before. Jason Saunders & Bruce Kennedy of Tauranga YPBC and Sarah & Emma Berry of Worser Bay BC won the respective male and female competitions, securing their places to represent New Zealand at the 2006 ISAF Youth Championships at Weymouth & Portland in the UK. Just in second places respectively were Carl Evans & Peter Burling of Kohimarama YC/Tauranga YPBC (NZ National Champions by a few days!) and Susannah Pyatt & Bianca Barbarich-Bacher of Murrays Bay SC.
