Porto Alegre hosts 420 South American Championship 2014
The 420 South American Championship Class began on Thursday 18 November hosted by Veleiros do Sul Sailing Club. In a bright and shiny day and south wind of medium intensity in Porto Alegre was a good start for the Championship which brings together 21 teams from Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
In the early afternoon a meeting was held with the sailors and international jury to inform crews about the competition.
After the meeting, the sailors went to the Guaiba river for the practice race. The superstition of who wins this race is not something that worries Thiago Ribas/Tiago Quevedo, the Brazilian team who secured the win. Second were Argentina's Clara Videla/Sofia Videla and third were Brazil's Leonardo Lombardi/Rodrigo Light.
The measurements of the boats were closed by ISAF International Measurer Alexander Finsterbusch from Argentina. In the evening, the Veleiros do Sul South American Opening ceremony was held, with the participation of the team leaders, class representatives, race officials and most importantly the teams, followed by a welcome cocktail. On Friday 19 December, racing kicks of at 1400 hours.
