Race day 1 results - 2022 420 & 470 Junior Europeans

First day of races done at the 2022 420 & 470 Junior European Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal.

After a 2 hours delay on shore due to lack of wind, all the fleets started racing around 15:30.

All three 420 fleets sailed together in the same course, while the second course was only for the 470 fleet.

Light wind and flat water were the prevailing conditions, only picking up to 8-10 knots at the end of the last races.

420 Open results - Race day 1

The recent Bronze medalists at the 2022 Youth Sailing World Championships in Netherlands, Camilla Michelini / Margherita Bonifaccio ITA, were the best team among the 420 Open championship today, scoring a 1-2 in the yellow group and leading both the overall and Women’s fleets with 3 points.

The second place overall and first Men/Mixed is for Marc Mesquida / Ramon Jaume ESP 1-3 with 4. Third place in the overall podium and second Men/Mixed for Pol Mateu / Alejandro De Maqua ESP 2-3 with 5.

Ian Walker / Finn Dicke ESP 6-1 are third in the Men/Mixed championship.

Noelia Petesic / Petra Gambiraza CRO 3-5 are 5th overall and Women’s vice-leaders. Lou Deville / Emma Picot FRA 13-6 complete the Women’s provisional podium on the 10th place in the overall ranking.

420 Under 17 results - Race day 1

The first 420 U17 overall and Men/Mixed spot is for Severin Gericke / Xaver Schwarz GER 2-1 with 3 points, followed by Marisa Vicens / Fernando Barcelo ESP 6-3 and Jan Zamojski / Kacper Wojczulanis POL 3-9 with 9 and 12.

Ana Planinsic / Lara Bozic SLO 10-5 are the U17 Women’s leaders on place 5th. The recent Silver medalists in The Hague, Amelie Wehrle / Amelie Rinn GER 14-2 are 2nd Women and 6th overall. Iakovina Kerkezou / Danae Giannouli GRE 1-16 complete the Women’s U17 provisional podium on 7th.

470 results - Race day 1

The 470 class competition is led by Matisse Pacaud / Lucie De Gennes FRA 2-3 with 5 points, followed by Pablo Ruiz / Marta Penarrubia ESP 3-4 and Efe Tulcali / Defne Danismend TUR 1-7 with 7 and 8 points respectively.

Zofia Korsak / Franciszek Borys POL 9-1 are the U21 leaders and placed in the 4th place overall with 10 units.

The competition will continue tomorrow with two new races per fleet, with the first warning signal at 14:00 for the 420s and 14:30 for the 470s.

Two races are scheduled per day until July 26th, when we’ll meet the new 2022 420 & 470 Junior European champions.
