Craig Dibb and Charlie Cox were clinical in claiming the 420 boy’s title, picking up five race wins, one of which was in the final race of the day which ultimately clinched the title from Tim Gratton and Ed Riley, who finished the week in second, two points off the top spot.

420 2011 RYA Volvo Youth National Champion, Dibb said, “It feels great and hasn’t really sunk in yet, finishing first in the last race was the highlight of the week as that’s when we knew we had won.”

Cox went onto say, “We got off to a bad start so have been catching up all week. We knew we had to beat Tim and Ed and that’s what we did, it’s just an amazing feeling!”

Jess Lavery and Georgie Mothersele had a fantastic week leading the way for the female 420 crews by finishing third overall and are crowned 420 female champions.

Both Dibb and Cox and Jess and Georgie have also earned themselves the right to represent Great Britain at the 2011 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships in Zadar, Croatia.

Craig Dibb and Charlie Cox have had a very impressive and positive run of results in the 420 European/Junior Selector Series which would have been a contributing factor to their championship title. With confidence high and their partnership blossoming, the duo will be valued members of the team.

420 sailors Jess Lavery and Georgie Mothersele will be making their Youth Worlds debut after taking the championship glory at Hayling Island. The pair have made huge improvements since last year’s championships as they finished 17th overall compared to their spectacular overall third at this year’s Championships.nLavery commented, “We are delighted to have been selected for Team GBR and are really looking forward to competing in our first Youth World Championships.”
