A further, fifth race was sailed at Kiel on Sunday (we had originally assumed at 19.00 that there had been no racing). The final results are available on the Kieler Woche website. And the 5th race provided the all-important discard!

Justin Liu & Sherman Cheng of Singapore discarded their 9th in the first race and, with their remaining 1,1,2,1 line-up, took the overall lead to win Kieler Woche 2010 by 3 points. Damien Brenac & Julien Lacase of France had to concede the lead to take 2nd, but their highest score of 3 to discard left them with an impressive score-line too. Just behind by a point, and clearly fighting to the finish with a BFD in the final race to discard, were Jordi Xammar Hernandez & Joan Herp of Spain. Liu & Chen’s compatriots, Chuan Yang Ko & Andrew Paul Chan, were 4th, on equal points with Xammar & Herp.

Rachel Lee & Cecilia Low led the women in 5th overall on equal points with Ko & Chan. Cassandre Blandin & Marion Leprunier of France were in 6th, just a point behind, while Gwenaelle Berhault & Pauline Mazzochi, followed their country-women in 13th overall, to give France her third podium place!.
