Turkey and Spain started leading the 2021 420 Youth Sailing Worlds in Oman

The 2021 Youth Sailing World Championships started today in Oman, organized by World Sailing. A steady wind slowly building from 7 to 10 knots marked the sailing conditions on the beginning of the competition, were both the 420 Men/Mixed and 420 Women fleets completed the first 2 scheduled races.

The first turn on course B was for the Men/Mixed fleet, where representatives from 22 nations began fighting for their major goal this year, the Youth Sailing World medals. The Turkish team formed by Can Erturk / Ali Beren Adamcil TUR wrapped the first day in top of the fleet after winning the first race and finishing fourth on the second one. Two points behind them appear Ian Clive / Finn Dicke ESP from Spain. The third provisional place goes for Ludwik Grzelak / Tomasz Lewandowski POL, six points behind the leaders. Roi Levy / Ariel Gal ISR were the winners of the second race, after scoring a 14th first. The reigning 2021 420 Men/Mixed World Champions Tommy Sitzmann / Luke Woodworth USA are ranked 18th after an eleventh place and a disqualification.

The girls were called to course B on second turn, when the wind raised to 8-9 knots. The Spanish team formed by Neus Ballester / Andrea Perello ESP started in front of the 19 boats fleet with a third and a first place results. Camila Michelini / Margherita Bonifacio ITA are second, three points behind the leaders. "After the first day of racing we are in 2nd place (2-5). We're ready for tomorrow, cheer for us! wrote the Italian team on their instagram @cm_sailingteam - On the third place come the 2021 420 Women's World Champions in Sanremo, Vanessa Lahrkamp / Katherine McNamara USA. They were the winners of the first race today but a ninth place on the second one dropped them down 6 points behind the leaders.
