420 DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME SUPPORTING INDIA, INDONESIA AND SOUTH AFRICA
The International 420 Class Association Development Programmes targets nations who have the talent and aspiration, but will benefit from the support of coaching expertise and financial assistance to improve their skills sets and progress to compete at Class Championships.
In the past twelve months, the International 420 Class Association has run Coaches and Sailors Clinics in Indonesia, Myanmar, Mexico, Bulgaria and India. Later this year, Clinics will be held in Canad, Czech Republic, Bahamas, China and Hong Kong. Click here to find out more …
Advancing the participation of teams at the 420 Class Coaches and Sailors Clinics held in India and Indonesia in December 2016 and May 2017, the next step was to support these teams to compete at 420 Championships. Teams from both nations were invited to compete at the 420 Open European Championships, and the 420 Class is delighted to welcome Indonesia’s Ladies team of Farah Asima Tangilling/Nur Fatin Syafika and India’s partnership of Aryaman Dutta/Arosh Chaudhari who will compete in the Open event.
The 420 Class has covered the entry fee, accommodation and coach, and boats are provided by the Nautical Club of Palaion Faliro. Expert coaching is with Michalis Mileos (GRE), who has supported the teams from three days prior to the Championship through to its conclusion. South Africa has also joined the programme with entry fee support provided.
South Africa is represented by Michaela Robinson/Sibu Sizatu and Asenathi Jim/Elsje Dijkstra in the Open events, both competed as mixed teams. Jim is stepping back into a 420 after many years campaigning a 470 at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and has partnered up with Elsje Dijkstra. Jim’s crew at the recent 470 Worlds, Sibu Sizatu, is being helmed by Michaela Robinson. These partnerships combining the hands of experience with the raw talent of youth is likely to prove potent in the leaderboard standings.
