HUNGARIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WON BY FORMANEK/KALMAR
The partnership of Liza Formanek/Luca Kalmar raced virtually in a field of just one, as they controlled the 2016 Hungarian 420 National Championships from day 1.
Seventeen teams, 16 Hungarian and 1 from the Czech Republic contested the 7 race series at Balatonfured Yacht Club on Lake Balaton.
The winning pair opened the series neck and neck with Szabolcs Wolf/Andras Csebfalvi, matching each other's performance in the opening two races, before Liza Formanek/Luca Kalmar broke away.
These two teams were the top Hungarian performers at the 2016 420 Junior Europeans held on Lake Balaton in late July/early August, but then their results fortunes were the other way around, with Wolf/Csebfalvi finishing ahead in 42nd compared to Formanek/Kalmarin in 69th.
Formanek/Kalmar scored 4 races from the 7 race series, not needing to sail the last race, although they did, finishing in 13th and keeping well out of the way of the chasing.
A tiebreak finish for second and third, with 17 points apiece to Szabolcs Wolf/Andras Csebfalvi and Daniel Zsolt Nyari/Daniel Peter Pertl. Just 2 points behind in fourth overall were Balint Kocsis/Andra Pavlik, and then a significant points gap to the chasing fleet.
Top U17 finishers were:
1. Bálint Kocsis/AndrásPavlik - 4th overall
2. Botond Nagy/Christopher Ifi Valde - 5th overall
3. Botond Izsák/András Bonifert - 9th overall
