US Atlantic coast championships update

22
Nov 2011

Host venue, the Annapolis Yacht Club was humming with the sounds of Junior Sailors from all across the United States, with twenty-two boats competing from 18-22 November 2011, making it one of the largest 420 regattas in recent memory.

A great breeze on Saturday kept the sailing fast and furious, with even more challenging conditions on Sunday.

For the overall leaders, their series didn’t start so well with a scoring penalty against them, but Reinier Eenkema van Dijk/Spencer McDonough (USA) upped their pace to go on to place a scoreline of single-digit results. They were the only team to show such consistency and included three race wins to secure victory by a 5 point margin. A team to watch, their most recent performance on the world stage was representing the USA at the 2011 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships in Zadar, Croatia where they finished 20th.

An all female pairing of Lily Katz/Fiona Walsh secured their second place with a race win in the final race 9 to put them one point over another female team of Sarah Williams/Haley Fox who finished on 33 points.
