New Zealand leads the way to the Grand Final at the 420 Youth TR Champs

It seems that they had some storms over night at Lago di Ledro and then were a bit becalmed for most of Friday, but the Race Committee have tomorrows finals set-up as follows: New Zealand (the favourite) in the Grand Final with Italy 3 and a shoot-out between ITA2 and ITA3 for the Petit Finals. GBR are lying 5th, ITA4 6th, ISR1 7th, ITA5 8th and ISR2 9th

New Zealand Champion 420 Youth Team Racers 2006

Event News

The Kiwis had led throughout the Championship at Lago di Ledro, Trento, Italy and won the competition from a strong Italian challenge. GBR and ISR also put in good performances. Results posted at 13.25 today: 1st NZL; 2nd ITA 3; 3rd ITA 2; 4th ITA 1; 5th GBR; 6th ITA 4; 7th ISR 1; 8th ITA 5; 9th ISR 2. This is now the time to develop those Team Racing skills in preparation for 2007!

António Pereira/Afonso Prieto lead after 3 races today. Miguel Mamede/Tomás Almeida (POR) are 2nd and Adrián Zamacona/Juan Gonzalez 3rd as the 420s returned to Calanova from the Bay of Palma, Majorca after their first day's sailing (10/04/06).

The 420s got two races in on a day when most of the Olympic Classes did not race. The day started with a grey, calm morning, which changed to a sunny afternoon, with wind 225º -230º, 8 to 10 knots.

Jose A. Medina & Antonio Del Castillo take over the lead at the Princess Sofia after 9 races, with 15 points, on Wednesday. António Pereira & Afonso Prieto (POR) drop to 3rd place (29 points), while David Omedes & Carlos Gallart (ESP) pull up to 2nd on 26 points. Following completion of the qualifiers, the final round starts tomorrow.

The Princess Sofia Trophy Regatta in Palma, Majorca – one of the principal regattas on the Olympic Classes’ circuit – is inviting 420s, as well as Europes and Dragons, to participate in 2006. 120 entries for Princess Sofia

For the first time this year, the 420 Class is invited to join the Olympic Classes at the 37th HRH Princess Sofia in Palma, Majorca from 10 to 14 April. Of the 120 entries, one is from Switzerland, eight from Portugal and 19 from Germany, the remainder being a massive turnout from the home country, Spain.
